A passion for education has always burnt brightly in our Senior Account Executive, Asiya Swaleh. During her tenure at the Company she has continually pushed herself and those around her to grow and take advantage of any learning initiatives available, both personally and professionally. "Education is highly empowering as it cannot be taken away and it certainly gives one a competitive advantage within ones chosen career" confirms Swaleh.
It's because of this passion that we couldn't be prouder when Asiya was chosen as an Ambassador for the Insurance Institute of Gauteng's (IIG) education portfolio. "to be noticed and considered a value-add to a large organisation like this, that plays such a key role in influencing, monitoring and enhancing the financial services industry, was truly a pleasure and honour" Swaleh says of her appointment.
We sat down to talk a bit more about her new position:
I've been appointed to the Education Portfolio which is responsible for the Insurance Leadership Development Programme (ILDP), Insights Outlook sessions which occur monthly as well as the Roots and Wings Mentorship Programme wherein I am also a Mentor once again. I'll host and MC some sessions during the year as well as write up reports for publication in the IIG Informer. I'm excited to work with my fellow members on the Education portfolio and accessing my network to seek relevant and dynamic speakers and sponsorships.
Certainly. Having a serious footprint in the industry is invaluable and the IIG has allowed me to flex certain intellectual muscles and areas of creativity I may not normally get to use in my day to day activities.
Our President, Carla Jordan's, personal stamp this year will be 'Pride, Purpose, Passion' with a focus on creating tangible impact and transformation within the industry, promoting education, expertise and personal growth as well as developing a strong affiliation and pride in the institution and industry. It's a busy year with so much planned and something for everyone. A brand new initiative that launched this year which I think is fantastic is our CPD Vault – a place that our members can track and upload points based on their attendance/participation at our Outlook sessions. We all know how important CPD points are in our profession.
As a mentor I am able to guide, share knowledge and expertise and hopefully enhance someone's career path which is such a rewarding feeling. Hosting and being a part of the Insights sessions also place me front and centre to the industry at large and there can be no greater affirmation than that. I look forward to contributing towards my Council's and the Institutes goals and look forward to being enthusiastic, interactive and participative while serving with pride and commitment.
Congratulations Asiya, we wish you all the best and can not wait to see the positive impact and input of your work at the IIG.
